Snow Again by Vicky Mount
I don’t know if I’ve already mentioned it but I have a tremendous love for cats in naïve art. Those two just go so well together! And that is probably why there are so many artists out there who combine them in the most beautiful ways. This is part 1 of a blog series I appropriately call ‘Naïve art and cats’. Stay tuned – there will be many more of them.
I’m starting off with the skilfully executed artwork of one of my favourite painters, Vicky Mount. Vicky is one of those artists who make me wish I’d stuck with painting when I was younger. I’d love to be able to create naïve art that I’d be proud to hang on my walls. Alas, becoming a full-time graphic designer had satisfied my creative thirst early on and I’ve never really picked up my painter’s brush again since I left school.
But that doesn’t stop me from admiring other artists’ work, which brings us back to Vicky. Her paintings are exactly the kind of style I love so much: bright and fun and full of emotion. Plus they are so well crafted! I don’t know Vicky personally but her art makes me really happy! I think we’d have a lovely time chatting over a cup of coffee. Her Facebook intro proclaims, ‘I walk to work in my slippers,’ which I can wholeheartedly relate to. Vicky is clearly a woman with a great sense of humour and that translates into her artwork. There is a warmth to her subjects and colours that makes me smile whenever I look at them. The names of her paintings are typically met with a giggle and even her sadder topics make me feel all fuzzy inside. On top of that, Vicky and I share the widely spread weakness for cats, so many of her paintings show exactly that: kittens in all colours and with the most hilarious facial expressions. I want to adopt them all!
So, enough waffling already. Here are some of my favourite Vicky Mount creations:

Eric and Shaun (pre-neutered)

Goldfish Gone

Love Pot

Waiting for Noah

Small Landscape

A Vacancy

Mornin’ Harry. Mornin’ Arthur.

A quiet word

Say it with Fish

Pussy Galore

Girl with Ginger Cat
And a couple of sad ones:

10th Life
