Be warned. I’m about to have a rant. Something is tickling my inner demons. And has been for the last 20 years at least. I just can’t take it any longer! Things must be said.

If you’re not, unlike me, a graphic designer with OCD, you might laugh because it’s a teeny-tiny problem. Yes, they are teeny-tiny things, though for me as enjoyable as a swarm of gnats. I’m talking about quotation marks. Or more to the point, the straight – also more accurately called dumb – quotation mark.

With the 25th anniversary of the Wave-Gotik-Treffen in Leipzig just behind us and inspired by a few friends who posted their amazing photos as young, beautiful goths, I’ve been thinking about the design aspects of the ‘dark’ culture lately. I’m not a fully-grown goth myself but I can’t say there isn’t something about the aesthetics of that scene that I don’t admire enormously. Now before I go on, let’s not get too hung up on terminology here. As with other scenes, genres, lifestyles – whatever you wanna call it – there are labels that some people embrace while others get upset over. I won’t pretend I know much about the goth culture apart from the fact that there is so much beauty in it! And that’s what this blog is all about.

Just my type

Alright then. Let’s start this again and actually write my first ever design blog. Before I dive in, here is a little introduction about me and why I’ve started this collection of all my favourite design things – just in case you ask.

At the moment it’s 7.30 in the morning and I’m barely awake, so chances are I’ll keep today’s musings short and sweet. Or not. We’ll see. Anyway, without much further ado, let me reveal the first design passion that comes to mind before coffee:
